Body donation means that a person donates her whole body after death to an Anatomical Institute for medical research, teaching and training. Such a ruling is revocalbe at any time.
Anatomical Institutes are dependent on body donation to fulfill its responsibilities in the education of future physicians and in the medical basic research.
After transfer of the body to the Anatomical Institute its preservation takes place, by the end of the preparation in the training and continuing education courses, the cremation of the remains and burial in the grave of honor at the Zentralfriedhof in Erlangen. For the annual ecumenical funeral the relatives of body donors and students are invited.
Prospects for a body donation receive the necessary documents by a personal, hand-written and signed request. These are:
– the form “last will and testament” and
– a detailed information letter.
For formal, legal reasons, we do not mail documents to requests by fax or by e-mail.
